The Dover East Docks are part of the Port of Dover, a major ferry port in the Southeast Coast of England. Its history dates back from the early 17th century when the trade industry prospered greatly. The Port of Dover is located a few kilometers from downtown Dover and can be accessed through the M20/A20 road to Folestone or the M2/A2 road to Canterbury. Travellers who opt for cheap car hire at the Dover East Docks may take the same routes.

Transport to and from the port is easy with frequent buses and express coaches from London Victoria and the town center. Rail services are also available at the Dover Priory Station with connections to and from London Victoria and Charing Cross stations . Ferry Buses to the Dover Priory station from the East Docks or vice versa offer their transport and transfer services for free. Budget car rentals are offered by Easycar, Opodo, Holiday Autos, Economy and Carhire 3000.

The port offers passenger amenities such as a bank, bureaux de change, ATMs, public phones, facilities for persons with reduced mobility, information desks, booking desks, and a wide range and assortment of shops and food and beverage joints. Passengers may enjoy these facilities and the view beyond the port while waiting to board their cruises or ferries.

From the port, travellers may steer their car rentals to famous destinations close by such as the Dover Castle, Canterbury Cathedral and City, Leeds Castle, the Rochester Castle, Bluewater Shopping Centre, or some other parts of London apart from Kent and Dover.
